Carla: Leading the Way as our First Female Pilot

Flying Towards Diversity: Carla’s Journey Inspires

Pursuing a Passion for Aviation and Shattering Stereotypes

Carla, a 21-year-old trailblazer from Antibes, France, has always dreamt of a career in aviation. Her fascination with airplanes ignited at a young age, and after encountering several captains, she found herself captivated by the world of commercial piloting. In an inspiring encounter with a female pilot, Carla asked herself, “Why not me?”. From that moment, she pursued her dream with unwavering determination, giving her best to make it a reality.

Education and Milestones: From Classroom to Cockpit

Academic excellence has been a driving force in Carla’s journey. In 2019, she proudly obtained her scientific high school diploma, setting the stage for her future aspirations. In January 2020, Carla embarked on her flight training at Cannes Aviation, where she pursued her Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). Demonstrating her commitment and aptitude, Carla successfully passed all the theoretical modules of the ATPL on her first attempt.

To gain practical experience, Carla began her flight training on a Diamond 40 single-engine aircraft before progressing to the Diamond 42 multi-engine aircraft. Recently, she accomplished a major milestone by obtaining her Commercial Pilot License with Multi-Engine and Instrument qualifications. With 175 hours of total flight time and an additional 75 hours on simulators, Carla’s skills are honed both in the air and in virtual training environments.

Carla also underwent advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) on the Extra 200, mastering acrobatic maneuvers such as stalls, inverted flight, and spins. Additionally, she completed her multi-crew training on the A320 simulator, gaining invaluable experience in a collaborative cockpit setting.

Conquering New Horizons: Type Rating and Beyond

Carla’s ambition and thirst for knowledge have led her to Rome, where she has recently undertaken her first type rating on the Cessna Citation Mustang C510 at the prestigious Flight School Aviomar. After successfully passing the theoretical exam, which encompasses comprehensive knowledge of the aircraft’s systems, performances, and limitations, Carla eagerly awaits the practical training on the state-of-the-art full-motion simulator.

The Cessna Citation Mustang C510, equipped with the cutting-edge Garmin G1000 avionics and Pratt & Whitney engines, presents Carla with exciting new challenges and opportunities. During her two weeks of intensive training, she underwent six simulator sessions, culminating in a rigorous examination. Carla finds great joy in maneuvering this agile aircraft, relishing the incredible sensations of her initial takeoffs and landings. Each moment is a reminder of her unwavering passion for flying.
